Makeup Tips for the Holiday Season

The holiday season means lots of company, parties and entertainment. You can still look your best, regardless of how much running around and last minute shopping you are taking on. It is best to start stocking up now on the holiday beauty essentials, that way you have one less thing to worry about once the holiday season is in full swing.

A Few Holiday Makeup Tips

There are plenty of looks and makeup style to celebrate the holidays, but before you decide on your own, you need to have the right makeup-applying tools and tricks. Here are some useful tips to help you pull off that festive look:

Embrace the Shimmer – The holidays beg for shimmer and sparkle. From adorning the Christmas tree with sparkling holiday decorations to fun, glittery dresses, your makeup should play the part too. Consider purchasing a bronze shimmering eye shadow or glittering powder for the cheeks. If you have fair or light-coloured skin, stick to pink-based highlighters, while medium-to-dark skin works best with golden-toned highlighters.

Get a Holiday Inspired Manicure – Nothing screams “happy holidays” more than festive nails. Whether you have glittering red and green French tips or sparkling gold, it will give you a little extra twinkle. If a French tip manicure is not in the cards for you, consider painting your nails with holiday-inspired colours, such as deep burgundy, bright Christmas red, tree green or even gold.

Festive Eye Shadows – Decorate your eyes just like you would decorate the tree. A light green paired with the swept black eyeliner look is festive and even sexy. Pair a deep purple eyeshadow with snowflake adornments on the eyelids for a sultry, festive look or even add a little sparkle with glitter eyeshadow.

Lips – A luscious, vibrant colour is key to perfect holiday lips. Skip matte finishes and stick to something glossy if you can. For example, use a bold Christmas red with a shimmer to help highlight your pout or try a mauve or reddish-chocolate.

Blush – The winter weather often washes out your natural colour. Blush is one of those makeup items that should be on everyone’s must-have list. It naturally increases your natural, rosy glow and adds that splash of colour that seems to drain from all of us as the winter chill takes effect.
